Mission Statement: To provide technical and financial assistance for the conservation, protection, and development of natural resources within Lewis County.
History of Conservation Districts:
- In the 1930’s a drought, along with farming practices, created an ecological disaster known as the “Dust Bowl”
- In 1937, President Roosevelt wrote the governors of all the states recommending legislation that would allow local landowners to form soil conservation districts
- There are nearly 3000 conservation districts in the United States
- In Washington, Districts were created by RCW 89.08
